Vardalos, who writes and directs, and Corbett remain quite likable leads, but it has always been the larger ensemble that has been the real charm of the films. Andrea Martin as Aunt Voula and Louis Mandylor as Toula’s brother Nick are reliably entertaining, as far as the script allows them. However, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" truly misses the presence of the Portokalos matriarch, Lainie Kazan's Maria. Unfortunately, she is limited to only a few scenes back home in Chicago and misses out on all the antics in Greece, and her absence is indeed felt.

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" offers its audience a cinematic holiday experience, much like the one it gives its characters. While Barry Peterson's cinematography successfully captures some of the country's beautiful landscapes, the film constantly struggles with the abundance of cheap stock footage used for many of its established scenes. Undoubtedly, audiences won’t rush to the theaters just for the spectacular views or for that matter, much else. It’s a shame that despite being set in such a beautiful location, the film doesn’t fully captivate.

"My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" focuses more on its tried and tested formula of emotional family drama, which is certainly quite sweet. The script’s attempts to include broader discussions on topics like refugees and gender identity, though well intentioned, remain superficial and lack depth. As a result, it often risks becoming overly sentimental, highlighting the painfully obvious fact that this franchise has run out of fresh ideas. So much so that the only thing left worth exploring is a big fat Greek retirement.
